How Does it Work?

MPI works by inducing a magnetic field into the ferromagnetic material being tested.

This magnetic field causes any surface or near-surface discontinuities to become magnetically charged and, therefore, visible through the application of iron oxide or iron oxide-copper oxide magnetic particles.

The particles are attracted to the charged areas, highlighting the presence of any defects.

Application of Magnetic Particle Testing

• Detecting surface and slightly subsurface discontinuities in ferromagnetic materials
• Inspection of welds and castings in various industries such as aerospace, automotive, oil and gas, and power generation
• Non-destructive evaluation of components, including machinery, pipes, and pressure vessels
